💬 Commentary English

Unswerving devotion is not an activity but an inner state. That state where there are no thoughts other than that of the Lord, no reliance on anyone apart from Him; and further even while performing spiritually dedicated rituals and activities even no dependence on them is maintained. The Supreme is the only centre for hope-faith-prayer. You and You, You and You and nothing else. Even this emotion right from the depths of one's inner silence. This is unswerving faith in actuality! This is being indicated in the divine words:

This state of dedicated devotion results from the purity of the inner-self. Till the time the accumulated past impressions and impurities persist inside, the mind will be outward-going. Single-pointedness can never be developed in devotion. Till then, even devotion will remain restricted to one of the activities one performs. That is why by sacrifice, charity, austerity and study of scriptures purification of innermost self can be achieved and thereafter the single-pointed devotion or the natural state of unswerving devotion can develop. This very state has been called somewhere as "satatyuktanaam" and elsewhere as 'nityayuktah' etc by the Gita preacher.

In the tenth chapter after relating the features of this state, the Lord has given assurance of His grace at the same time, i. e. if effort and dedicated spiritual activity is done selflessly with the objective of the attainment of God, the result is the state of unswerving and constant unity with the Lord and by this state of total dedication is reached. The state of being ever united with the Lord will lead to experience the normal and natural grace of the Lord and through that grace one can derive the rare divine benefit of knowing, seeing and feeling oneness with the Lord! One starts directly feeling that the Lord is all-pervasive and is present in all, is all! One can even manage to see Him in an embodied form with attributes and one can see the divine presence everywhere and in everyone. The embodied being while being in this world is still not in the world; revels in the spirit of the divine.
