📜 Translation English

You should not get anguished on seeing this terrible form of Mine nor should you get bewildered. You free from fear and with a gladdened heart behold My four-armed form holding conch, disc, mace and lotus.

💬 Commentary English

In creation there is origination and dissolution; both have their source in Him and are due to Him. I am the death which devours all-this the Lord has specified in the narration of His glories and prior to that as well. All this he showed in His universal form. Arjun should have understood that when he prayed for the vision of the universal form it will include everything. This was Arjun's ignorance that he became anguished on seeing the terrible form. The Blessed Lord did not intend to distress or put Arjun in anguish by showing His vast form; it could be clearly seen that Arjun was in body consciousness! That is why Lord Shri Krishna is trying to make Arjun understand-

Ignorance and anguish are due to not grasping the fact that all that is, is the Supreme. Arjun should have become happy that the Lord had blessed him greatly. He showed everything of His in the vast form and concealed nothing. But inner body consciousness did not allow happiness to last. For the seeker there is a note of caution. Keep on practising. Sometimes by endeavouring and engaging in devotion one feels that one is unable to reach the state of realization; sometimes dejection takes hold. This is not the right attitude. It requires maturity at that stage. That is why this department rests in the hands of the Lord. From one's end the practice should continue, grow into maturity in that. Leave the rest further in the hands of that for whom the endeavour is being made. Remain calm.

In any case Arjun was shown also that form on the Lord becoming pleased; but now seeing the delight of Arjun for the four-armed form instead of the vast form, the Lord gives preference to his joy and once again gives him the vision of the four-armed form.
