7. Gyan Vigyan Yoga

Actual knowledge about supreme and a state of experiencing that intrinsic form is what seventh chapter inspires and explains scientificaly.

(The Yoga of knowledge and experience of the Truth Principle)

The philosophy of Bhagvad the Gita is perfect in itself. It is natural also that the philosophy expounded by the Blessed Lord Shri Krishna Who is endowed with all skills, all knowledge, the only True teacher cannot be imagined to be lacking on any count. Observe any aspect or facet of the knowledge expounded in the Gita! You will find it to be perfect or you will find the absolute capacity in it to move towards perfection. The seventh chapter entitled 'Gyan Vigyan Yoga'-the yoga of knowledge and experience of the Truth Principle and the title itself speaks of its perfection. The description of the Supreme Principle which is received through study, by listening and wisdom is that which establishes its identity in its true form, meaning that the knowledge finds its fulfillment in wisdom.

As per the philosophers of the Gita, in the entire Gita one finds three groups consisting of six chapters each. The first six chapters have a predominance of description of action, the next six chapters (7 to 12) give emphasis to the yoga of devotion, and the rest of the six chapters (13 to 18) are found to be dominated by description of knowledge. Though it is not so, that only one yoga has been described in one group of six chapters. All yogas are described in each group of six chapters, but the predominance is of one of the yogas. One feels surprised that if the second group is predominated by the yoga of devotion then why is the first chapter of the second group entitled yoga of knowledge and experience of the Truth Principle? In fact, devotion in the Gita is complemented by knowledge and knowledge carries with it the spirit of devotion. Devotion in the Gita is comprised of the realization of the nature of the Lord and not merely an external action. For this reason in this chapter the information has been provided about the nature of the Supreme and also with it is given the inspiration to know and realise Him. This is the very basis of the true devotion.

The conclusion of the sixth chapter is with the words spoken by the Lord. There, the Deliverer of the Gita's sermon, while describing the highest state of the yogi gives a clear indication, that the one who merges his inner-self completely in Me and is engaged in My devotion with faith is the one who is united in yoga with Me. Otherwise, the next chapter would have begun only if Arjun had raised a question. Arjun never asked anything! He too is silent. There is no acknowledgment from his end either. This is the intimacy of the Blessed Lord and His natural affection. Where there is a special feeling of oneness then even if not asked the facts of welfare are stated. Here, this very spirit is found to be displayed. The Blessed Lord keeping this in view, carries this spirit further in the beginning of the seventh chapter by again inspiring Arjun.
