II Shree Bhagavaanuvoncha I
kālo'smi lokakşayakṛtpravṛddho lokānsamāhartumiha pravṛttah
rte'pi tvam na bhavişyanti sarve ye'vasthitāḥ pratyanīkeşu yodhab
🕉 English Translation
Karne ko main nash sab loko ka,
Mahakaal ban kar hun prakat hua.
Ladne ko tumse jo yodha khade,
Rahenge na, yudh tu jo nabhi lade.

English
The Blessed Lord said:
I am time, the destroyer of all worlds; now I have grown in stature. At this time Iam engaged in destroying people. The warriors arrayed in the opposition army, all of them are not to live even without any action on your part.
The Lord is Omnipotent and All-powerful. Whatever form is required by the situation He assumes that very form. Here the occasion is of the war of the Mahabharata. Though the Lord has vowed that He will not lift any weapon nor will engage in warfare but He is powerful despite this. He is not subject to any subjugation for doing any thing. Arjun's first question is, Who are You in this dreadful form?" The Lord says, 'kaloasmi", Arjun at present I am in the form of Time, the Destroyer. Arjun said that he was unaware of His working. The Lord says that He has at present undertaken the task of destroying all worlds,
At the base of the sermon of the Gita is Arjun's avoidance of warfare. Arjun stated categorically, That I will not fight Govind (Gita 2/9). Here the Lord makes it explicitly clear that this will not be of any effect. Even if you do not fight then take it for certain that the warriors standing opposite to you will not survive.
Now taking the opportunity, the deliverer of the sermon of the Gita is motivating Arjun for the war-
