(The Yoga of Liberation Through Renunciation)

The divine sermon of Srimad Bhagvad Gita is in itself a wonderful secret. This is also not the case that this secret is in itself very complicated or inscrutable. It is very open and quite clear. The reality is that this secret of the Gita is such a secret which solves the most complicated and intricate entanglements of life. There is no question pertaining to self-elevation which does not find a solution in Sri Gitaji. The solution too is well organized, logical and supported by arguments and magnanimously liberal. Nowhere is there any narrowness, partiality or discrimination. This must be clear now after the study of seventeen chapters. The 18th chapter is the summary in essence of the all the teachings and preaching delivered until now. The first chapter is the background and the second is the preface. In the form of the second chapter is the introduction of the subject. That is why all issues have been touched upon in the second chapter. Therafter commencing from the third chapter the discussion on various aspects and dimensions of Yoga of Action then Yoga of Devotion and Yoga of Knowledge has continued till the seventeenth chapter.

The eighteenth chapter is the conclusion of all the inspirations from the Gita. That is why while concluding this chapter the adept charioteer of the chariot, the world teacher Lord Shri Krishna has touched upon every issue in summary, very artfully in an analytical manner. All the chapters of this holy scripture are important, extremely useful, but the 18th chapter is the vital force of the entire Gita. Study this in right earnest and in the spirit of enquiry. The title of the chapter is Yoga of Liberation through Renunciation. In the previous chapters, in various ways, the nature and state of renunciation and liberation and its practical side has been elaborated upon. By giving up the deformities and tendencies in conduct, the path of salvation gets beautified; such indications are also found in the inspirations from the Gita. Seekers and spiritual enquirers should once again in brief understand such mysterious states so that the various aspects associated with it may become a more forceful inspiration. With this spirit Arjun by putting a query before the Blessed Lord is providing a pious beginning to this chapter.
