Arjun said:

To bestow Your grace on me, the word of highest secret pertaining to the Self which You have spoken for Me, by this my delusion is dispelled.

💬 Commentary English

The first four verses of this chapter are spoken by Arjun. In all, the four verses there is a splendid, organized and orderly psychology of the Gita. What should be the state prior to the vision of the universal form? What kind of state the mind should develop and what are the expectations of such mind which are essential; this very spirit is presented in an extremely inspiring manner by Arjun in these verses. In the first verse Arjun has acknowledged that the words of the supreme secret which the Lord had spoken about His Self, i. e. His essential nature is one without a second. The essential nature of the Lord is the essence of the Self and this is also extremely secretive and also is a mysterious state. Previously also, it has been clarified that it is not easy to speak in an open manner about oneself; one cannot reveal all about oneself before others. It is the special affection of the Lord towards Arjun which is making Him say all this to him. That is why Arjun accepts that there is no contribution of his own effort, endeavour or eligibility towards this end; this, You are doing to bestow your beneficence on me.

Due to Your grace I have had the opportunity to hear all this from You about Yourself. Now I do not harbour any doubt or suspicion in my mind with regard to Your essential nature. Till now deluded by the whirl of worldly ignorance I was taking You to be just as a charioteer, this was due to my worldly bewilderment, which has now been removed.

For the seeker desiring spiritual evolution, or for those yearning for vision of the Divine, this is a direct inspiration! First empty yourself out of egoism inside you. Even if one is devoting oneself to the Lord then acknowledge that I am not doing anything, I am competent enough only to engage in the singing of the Lord's glories, reading of scriptures and associating with holy persons, but if Your grace descends on me then nothing is impossible. First of all, start with the spring board of Lord Shri Krishna's grace and then proceed ahead with the emotions expressed by Arjun-a
