kirīținaṁ gadinam chkrahastam-icchāmi tvām draşțumahaṁ tathaiva
tenaiva rūpeņa chturbhujena sahasrabaho bhava viśvamürte
🕉 English Translation
Gadaa, mukut aur chakra ho hath mein,
Roop apna aisa dikhaon mujhe
Hazar hathon wale vishwa roop ah,
Char hathon ke roop mein ho prakat.

English
I desire to see You as before crowned with mace and discus in hand. Therefore, O Thousand armed! O universal form! Assume Your four armed form.
Along with elation and fear one can feel a cleverness of expression on the part of Arjun.
The fierce form was discomforting for Arjun; then he should have said straightforwardly, "Show me the two-armed form of my charioteer, once again show me that form of Yours!" But observe Arjun's emotion-filled prayer in this verse-
Arjun is aware that Shri Krishna is an incarnation of Vishnu. When He can show His thousand-armed form then why should not one view His four-armed form too? The vision of the universal form has been had; now the divine sight is still active; the Lord is continuing to shower His grace; it is good to take full advantage of the opportunity. The manner of addressing is also so befitting! From the thousand-armed form to that of four-armed and universal form i. e. from the universal form to one form and that too not that of the charioteer at present; there is one more stage to cross; one more expression of divine splendour! When so much grace has been bestowed then one more too! Beneficence is the Lord's very nature. The form may sometimes be fierce but the nature is always that of bestowing grace. Arjun's prayer was answered; the Lord is now ready in that very form, in the same expression as was desired by Arjun.
