This is a strong inspiration for attaining the knowledge of the essential truth! Yoga of unswerving devotion and devotion which is steadfast; these are extremely unique and original words of the Gitaji. These words are the very life force of the seeker of spiritual path! The one who desires to engage seriously in self-elevation, whose mind yearns for the attainment of the goal-for them these words of the Gita and, otherwise, this verse deserves serious consideration and requires to be adhered to! On reading this verse the question arises that along with the knowledge of the reality why this word devotion, is associated. There is no difference anywhere nor should it remain in the seekers mind. The intellect which differentiates creates a hurdle for itself on the spiritual path. When the Lord states emphatically that in the form of the knower of the field I am, the devotees of the Formless and Attributeless divine also attain Me then where lies the difference! The essential truth to be attained is the same too. The state of constant devotion and unswerving yoga is no different from that goal. The goal is union with the Supreme! Both devotion and knowledge attain their fulfilment in this. Single-pointedness means that the mind does not wander anywhere else and constant devotion means that the mind does not have a tendency to develop relationship here, there and everywhere. Relationship should be only with the Supreme. From the point of view of the body I am your servant, from the point of view of the embodied being I am a part of You and from the point of view of the essential truth there is no difference. Let this glorious spiritual expression of Hanumanji become the ideal of life. External relationships should be restricted to outside limits! Inside there should be nothing apart from the Lord.
The discipline for knowledge cannot be perfected by sheer talks. The perfection of spiritual effort can only be through the inner state and not by just external activities. The mind by all means should be made to merge in the Supreme essence. This is what is called unswerving oneness and steadfastness in devotion. It is also essential to resort to solitary places. A doubt can arise; in that case the preachings of the Gita will become restricted to renouncees or those who have given up their family life. It is not so. In the previous verse by saying 'putra, dar, gehadisu' the Lord has made amply clear that even while living a family life in a detached manner it is possible to pursue the discipline of knowledge. Then how should the issue of solitary place and disinterest in social gatherings be taken? While in family life or in worldly trade and transactions sometimes one should resort to such practice. While studying the child sometimes confines himself to a solitary place. While performing official duties or looking into the accounts of the trade or even while talking to somebody one may desire to be alone. If the seeker seeks full time then solitude will be liked; if he is engaged in trade and is leading a family life then sometime one should inspect oneself in solitude-it is good to do so. The simple touchstone of assessment of the internal state or liking for the spiritual seeking can be gauged by whether there is liking for a solitary place. With the word 'janasamsadi' (crowd of people) the word 'aratih' (lack of delight) is used. One should not develop such a liking for the social gathering that on being away from it the mind becomes restless and unsteady.
