O Arjun! Just as the one sun illumines the entire universe, so also the Lord of the field (Self) illumines the whole field.

The Krishna of the Gita does not desire to limit whatever He has said to just a mere statement nor does He desire that the seeker has to be confined within limits. To support every issue by the means of logic and arguments or illustration and to make it graspable and explicit is the spectacular art of this incarnation equipped with all skills. In the 31st verse it has been said: He does not perform any action nor gets involved. Assessing the gravity of the subject in the 32nd verse He has made clear the expression 'nor gets involved' by giving the illustration of space. Here in the verse by giving the example of the sun the expression 'does do anything' has been made clear-
In the world the illumination is with the sun. After sunset there is darkness everywhere. The Sun is also not many but in the entire world just one. Watch from anywhere the sun will be found to be one only. Similarly, bodies are several but the light of consciousness in them is due to one soul. The illuminating element of the senses, the mind and intellect is that very same soul. In the absence of it there is only inertness and darkness; no activity is possible. Power, energy and consciousness, all exists in the light of Consciousness of the Self.
But the fact which deserves a serious thought is that just as the sun is emitting light in that light some are reciting the Gita, doing good work or somebody is playing cards, gambling, for that the sun does not become the doer or the enjoyer; it is not involved in any activity, is not causing any activity, it is just illuminating. Similarly, if in the consciousness of the soul, if someone is performing virtuous or evil deeds-the soul is not the doer but is just the light of consciousness. The embodied being as per his nature becomes the doer or the enjoyer.
Special inspiration is that there should be an intellectual awareness. Act thoughtfully; establish yourself in spirit of the soul and you will be released from the bondage of doership and enjoyership. The inspiration for this very divine state follows in the concluding verse of this chapter-
