āpūryamāṇamacalapratiṣṭhaṁ samudramāpaḥ praviśanti yadvat
tadvatkāmā yaṁ praviśanti sarve sa śāntimāpnoti na kāmakāmī
Just as the water of several rivers enters the sea, which is ever being filled without disturbing its limits, in the same manner all gratifications enter the man of steady wisdom without creating any impact. That very same person attains peace. He is not the desirer of desires.

One must have observed the ocean. It is so deep, with great expanse, with the water of many rivers and drains flowing into it. Despite all this, it remains unmoved. It remains within its bounds with its gravity unchanged. It is not possible that the water of the rivers does not flow into it. But even when it comes, the limits should remain protected and its state should remain as it is, with no disturbance. This is its dignity. The ocean is an approriate example of this quality.
It's not possible to exclude oneself from external sensual objects. Seeing with the eyes, hearing with the ears, inhaling with the nose, tasting with the tongue implying sound, touch, form, taste and smell–these will always be part of life; but even when they exist, the mind should remain unperturbed, should not lose its balance, on subjection to them should not relinquish its peace, stability, concentration. Maintain oneself in tranquility.
This verse describes an extremely glorious state of the nobility of the man of steady wisdom. He treats the sensual objects in a manner which will augment the inner energy, strength, brilliance, nobility and not allow the outward going attachments to take the form of agitation and undermine the inner strength and energy. The external objects and attractions will not cause any disturbance inside! The principles explained in it should be given a thought.
