Certain is death for the living and for the dead birth is a certainity. Therefore for this inevitable cause you ought not to grieve.
For those who live at a body or material level and understand it to be everything, this verse is a significant warning. The realiser of the Truth principle in any case attains the state of liberation which is beyond birth and death. Jaatsya he dhruvo mrityuh - the one who is born is certain to die. The birth relates to the body and death will come to the body only. Nobody has control over this situation. Neither any scientist nor doctor holds sway in this situation. For this reason in a physical state neither the rich nor the powerful remained forever. Whoever has come is bound to go. Even though the pot of divine nectar was kept by Ravana in his navel he could not survive. Even by using the boon to fortify himself from all sides Hiranyakashyapu became a morsel in the mouth of time spirit. For those who are born, death is unavoidable, and in the same manner for the ignorant birth after death is also unavoidable.
For those who consider the physical body to be everything are always entangled in the web of desires, attachments and ego. Age of the physical body is limited. Desires become unlimited. On the completion of age for the fulfilment of residual desires rebirth takes place. The embodied is involved in the cycle of birth and death for several births. The Blessed Lord alerts in straight and clear words.
