atha chainam nityajatam nityam va manyase mritam
tathapi tvam mahabaho naivam socitumarhasi

Even if you think this soul to be constantly subject to birth and death still O mighty armed one! You ought not to grieve.
This is not the Reality. The Reality is that the soul is unchanging, immortal and indestructible. But even if you are of the opinion that the soul is subject to birth and death, it is not proper for you to grieve. Why is it so? This question is being answered by Lord Shri Krishna in the following verse.
