karmajaṁ buddhiyuktā hi phalaṁ tyaktvā manīṣiṇaḥ

janmabandhavinirmuktāḥ padaṁ gacchantyanāmayam

🕉 English Translation

📜 Translation English

The wise men endowed with the Yoga of even-mindedness, relinquishing the fruits born of actions, freed from the bondage of birth attain the sorrowless state.

💬 Commentary English

While performing the actions the sight should not be on the fruits or the reward. With the resolute dedication towards duty, the actions will be performed with dexterity and freedom will be there from the bondage of actions; at the same time one will avoid frustration, worry, tension and limited vision oriented towards a particular object and enjoy the bliss of generosity in life.

O human being! Give some thought; In 84 lakh types of births God has blessed you with the good fortune of discriminative intellect and you have used it for fulfilling the worldly desires. The Blessed Lord cautions that actions with a desire of fruits are of a far inferior category than the Yoga of Evenness of Intellect. Equanimity of intellect implies–intellect is imbued with spiritual emotions towards God. This is the state in the Gita–'sukhmatyantikam' meaning eternal, limitless bliss and this state has been further in this series by the speaker of the Gita, Shri Krishna.
