The soul cannot be cut by weapons, cannot be burnt by fire, cannot be drenched by water and dried with by the winds. Because this soul cannot be pierced, and is incombustible, cannot be moistened or dried and this soul is eternal, immanent, immovable, stationary and is forever and ever.

Arjun became dreadful of the imminent deaths of his near and dear relatives. Lord Shri Krishna is showing in various ways the picture of reality, so that Arjun may overcome this fear. Reflection on the Self can, in true sense remove the fear of death. That is why these verses of the Gita has enabled several persons to lift themselves up beyond the fear of death. They made them alert and aware towards life and their duty in life. This enlightening expression of the Bhagvad Gita was behind the act of embracing the gallows by Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
Immortality and deathlessness is of the Essential Truth of soul. The physical body is made up of Five Elements. It is affected by the elements but the soul is above these; for this reason the elements cannot make any impact on it. Whatever weapons are there, they are manufactured by the earth element, and after that fire, water and air. Soul is incombustible, incleavable, cannot be drenched and dried. The soul is eternal, its existence was ever there, is there and will remain in future. Soul is all-pervading and it does not have any beginning, end or limit. Only the limited can be destroyed. The soul is stationary and immovable; there is no act of movement in it. Neither time, spirit destroyer, nor the limitations of space nor any element nor of any state or circumstance has the slightest of effect on it.
