viṣayā vinivartante nirāhārasya dehinaḥ
rasavarjaṁ raso'pyasya paraṁ dṛṣṭvā nivartate
The one whose senses do not get acquire the influence of the sensual objects is able to abstain from the sensual objects but is not able to get rid of the longing. On realization of the Supreme the man of steady wisdom becomes free from the inner vestiges of the influence of these desires.

Illustrating through the example of tortoise, immediately on the slightest approach of the sensual objects the fact of withdrawing the senses from them has been stated in the previous verse. See the profundity of the thoughts of the Gita. Of its own kind, it is an extremely significant verse. The external sensual attractions have been given up with obstinacy, or forcefully and discerningly.
But the cumulative longing of the sensual attraction which resides inside, on several occasions becomes a problem and impels towards sensual pleasures. Even to the extent that a seeker who is labouring to progress on the path of spirituality, his mind is also attracted by old longings towards the objects of the senses and sometimes the situation becomes extremely overwhelming! The mind starts wandering from spiritual devotion to them; the seeker finds himself to be helpless.
What are the tastes (longings) of these senses? This requires a close examination! In reality whenever through the medium of the senses its objects are enjoyed with craving, the impressions of it are imprinted on the mind; the taste of that enjoyment is accumulated inside. The influence of the senses objects acquired with intellect inclined towards indulgence and sense longings is inside, and it at sometime or the other drags the mind and senses towards those very sensual objects. The inner accumulated impressions of the craving of sensual objects does not allow the mind to hold sway and it joins the senses in sense indulgences.
