Dont be negligent, Be Active. Let all your actions be in context of welfare of humanity. Being self less and performing actions with intent of goodness is what third chapter aims at.
An attempt was made to look at the first two chapters of the Gita through the thought window. As a matter of fact, without deliberation it is difficult to understand the essential Truth Principle expounded in the Gita. The inspirations in the Gita are life guiding philosophy! The philosophy of the Gita relates to life and is not limited to any age or period. It is of relevance today, now, as well and Srimad Bhagvad Gita every chapter, every verse even to the extent of every word is for myself an inspiration in the form of auspicious divine blessing!
To understand Shri Gitaji in the right perspective it is necessary to have a look at the background and give thought to it; otherwise, somewhere or the other itself intellect can get confused, entangled and assume meanings as suitable to itself. It is an indisputable fact that the Lord will never say anything to delude anyone. His motivations are for removing all doubts. If there is any confusion in the mind, it is due to lack of knowledge or limited knowledge.
The second chapter in itself is the distinguishing summary chapter for the inspirations provided in the Gita. In this chapter the Blessed Lord has tried all emotional means to encourage Arjun to perform his duty. Somewhere using the discrimination between self and not self, knowledge of sentient and insentient, at other points talking at a social level of the inherent nature and duty related to it, elsewhere discussing the action of intellect in the performance of duty, the stability of intellect and the state of yoga (union with the Lord) and self-absorption (samadhi).
The matter relates to using all means for bringing around Arjun once again on the path of his duty. But it appeared to Arjun that all these means and inspirations are different from one another. The evenness and stability of intellect and harnessing it for the performance of one duty was mistaken by Arjun to be the state of being established in knowledge. That is why immediately on the conclusion of the second chapter Arjun puts forward whatever came to his mind in the form of a question before the Lord.
