Chapter 3 — Karma Yoga

Verse 28
🕉 Original Sanskrit Shloka

tattvavittu mahabaho gunakarmavibhagayoh
guna gunesu vartanta iti matva na sajjate

🕉 English Translation

📜 Translation English

But O mighty Arjun! The knowledgeable one who knows the principle behind the division of qualities (gunas) and the division of actions, understanding that it is the qualities which are acting on qualities, does not get attached.

💬 Commentary English

Do not pride yourself by thinking that I am so knowledgeable and the other is so utterly ignorant. All cannot attain equal status at the same time. The raw mangoes may be plucked all at the same time and kept for ripening together but all of them do not ripen simultaneously. The ripened mango has no right to jeer at the semi-ripened mango. Let the time come; the semi-ripened one can also become ripe. Some people completely comprehend the essence of knowledge. But there are several others who perform actions but do not have the right knowledge of the Reality. They are as yet fully overpowered by the qualities of Nature and are attached to actions and modes.
