If the sermon of the Gita has been heard attentively, then this kind of impact will naturally be there. If it is heard with a concentrated mind and it should go waste–that is not possible. If the delusion born out of ignorance does not get dispelled, then one must learn that the sermon has not been heard properly. That is why the dexterous speaker of the Gita after enquiring about the attentive hearing of the sermon, asks about the removal of delusion. The answer of Arjun is substantiating the fact that he has heard it with concentration.
In the tone of Arjun one can discern faith, enthusiasm, awareness and gratitude. From this it can be easily evaluated that what could be the influence of the Gita's sermon in life and it should rightly be so. Observe Arjun prior to the hearing of this sermon; he is sunk in dejection, with tearful eyes, depressed, deluded due to attachment, indecisive about his duty, lacking in enthusiasm! Observe his state now; his state being described by none else but himself. Previously there was this Arjun fully overcome by delusion! Entangled in the attachment towards kith and kin, sorrowful because of them. But now on hearing the Gita's sermon the delusion has been completely destroyed; the memory too has been restored. He had forgotten his natural duties and responsibilities; the Gita's sermon reminded him. The doubts that remained in the mind regarding the performance of actions–those too have been removed. The state is firm, stable and enthusiastic. And there is also in him the spirit of surrender–'kariṣye vacanam tava' (I will act according to Your word). I will act according to your direction. I will not act as per my wish; the wish of the Lord, His will, His instruction is the guide. There is the spirit of surrender along with the enthusiasm to act. This is the impact of the Gita's sermon on Arjun.
This is also an inspiration for every listener and reader of the Gita. What should be the impact of the Gita's sermon? The delusion should be destroyed; the real memory should be restored; all doubts should be removed; the mind should be stable and firm and the spirit of acting as per the direction of the Lord should be there. This is the transforming impact of the Gita. If after reading and listening even once such an experience begins to develop in the practical life then there is no greater achievement in life.
