The attributes of satvic nature are predominant amongst the three qualities, and are primary for taking the life on the path of righteousness and for that very reason it should be given utmost priority in life. Amongst the three distinctions of persistence observe the state of satvic persistence.
The meaning of persistence is ability to persist (fortitude). This is one aspect of life, with which the majority are unfamiliar with, but it is of great significance. How we are persisting with a particular matter-a lot in life depends on that. In the form of satvic persistence, the steadiness and firmness of this persistence has been indicated. The persistence which has matured through the means of yoga, is an absolute indisputable truth. Maturity can only develop by the practice of yoga. Keep practising the yoga of meditation regularly; there are several benefits to be derived from it. Mainly the power of concentration will be strengthened. There will develop single-pointedness. The attention will not be frittered here and there. Unsteadiness, fickleness and agitation will come to an end. This very state is that of unwavering persistence. The sole goal becomes the Supreme; all thoughts are directed towards Him, craving for Him and abiding in oneness in Him crops up.
In this state the activities of the mind, senses and the life force are not directed outwards. Their direction is also towards the Supreme. Due to the maturity, inner strength of persistence, the mind also does not run after useless desires and cravings. The life force is established in the consciousness of the Divine in a good manner, and the senses too are not inclined towards pleasures and are restrained; wherever they are to be applied they can be deployed and from wherever they are to be removed they do not go there. This is the control of the mind, senses and life force. They restrain their worldly movement and make them dedicated towards the Lord.
