O Mighty Armed One! The five causes for the accomplishment of action which lead to their culmination, which has been described in the Sankhya philosophy, know from Me now.

💬 Commentary English

Along with action there are two hints which deserve special deliberation. One is the accomplishment of action and the other surprisingly is the end of action! If one delves deep, then the accomplishment of action lies in the end of action and the cessation of action is its accomplishment. The perfection in counting rosary beads lies in it being dropped for good; this matter can be startling, but it is the truth. It is good to count the rosary beads, but gradually action should culminate in reaching a state. Through the rosary beads, the mantra which is being chanted should start repeating in the emotions of mind inside, on its own and when the rosary gets dropped one does not get to know; this is the perfection in the use of the rosary.

The perfection of the action is in the cessation of action. Action done in ignorance, indiscriminately keeps the embodied being entangled in a web of actions, birth after birth. The cycle of ignorance-desire-action goes on; the solution for this is indicated in the Sankhya scripture. Sankhya means discriminative, contemplative knowledge. This is the very state of doing actions thoughtfully, so that the cycle of action may come to an end. Towards this end, five causes have been described in Sankhya scripture. Simple and marvellous is the nature of the preacher of the Gita. The state to which an issue or principle pertains, to present the same under that very same heading, spirit and tradition. Though every principle emanates from Him, even then He does not claim it as His own. Here too, the reference of the Sankhya philosophy and further its presentation is given in that regard.
