Mamta na phal ki iccha na inme hee ho.

Chodo na inko magar tum kabhi,

Nichit hai matt mera uttam yahi.

📜 Translation English

O Parth! Actions like sacrifice, charity and austerity and all other actions relating to duty should be performed by giving up attachment and desire for fruit; this is My decided and the highest view.

💬 Commentary English

First of all, the actions of the nature of sacrifice, charity and austerity are required to be performed. Simultaneously, all other actions of the nature of duty too should be discharged. Secondly, all these actions should be performed without entertaining attachment and desire for fruit. Attachment should only be for the Supreme, by whose power and grace the work is being carried out. Whether it may be business, family or the necessary actions for the satisfaction of need for food for the body, there should be no attachment merely with action. Such a spirit should develop that action is due to previous destiny or the need of the body or it has been ordained by the Lord for me. Along with it should be this awareness that it is not my desire to remain embroiled in the bondage of actions. Worldly or spiritual, all actions are due to the grace of Lord Krishna and for obtaining His grace. Attachment and desire for fruit are the two strong strands of the bondage of action. Action should be performed without their intervention so that it may not become a cause for bondage. With all these arguments and inspirations Lord Shri Krishna has stated that this opinion of His is definitely the highest one.
