📜 Translation English

The seven great sages, and even ancient to them the four Sanakadi and fourteen Manus all have been born of My mind, and from them are all these living creatures of the world.

💬 Commentary English

In the eternal tradition of the Indian culture, creation and within creation the creatures, the order of creation of the social set-up of beings is thought-deserving, noble and full of splendour. Observe the nature of creation as it began from the Lord-

The Lord does not just desire to create the universe of beings. That the beings taking birth in creation should be glorious, not just the puppets made of bone, flesh and skin and just limited to material indulgence, that the noble tradition of sacrifice and austerity should also form their part. For this reason fourteen Manus were born. The progeny of Manu were called human beings, 'mananad eti manavah'-the human is the one who has the faculty of reflecting, thinking and discriminating between right and wrong. In one 'manvantar' (1/14 day of Brahma), there are fourteen Manus.

Sanak, Sanandan, Sanat and Sanatan-these four men were in themselves a living epitome of sacrifice and austerity. The origin of seven sages, in every manvantar, the Manus and the great sages are different. In the beginning of creation Marichi, Angira, Atri, Pulastya, Pulah, Kratu and Vashisht were the seven sages. In the present manvantar Viswamitra, Jamdagni, Bharadwaj, Gautam, Atri, Vashisht and Kashyap are the seven sages. Through them the beings further came into existence. Even today the gotra which is stated along with your name is related to some or the other sage. From this it is clear that we are the progeny of Manuji maharaj and other sages.

The Blessed Lord by clarifying this has given an indication to awaken humanity and the spiritual consciousness of the sages in the embodied being. Such inspiration from the Gita is for the present day human being immersed in materialism, a direct warning too. O human! Behave as a human being! Do not abandon and forget the tradition of sacrifice and austerity of the sages. It is not proper to forget the substratum. The Lord is the primordial cause of all these, primarily the source of all these extensions, is the resolve of the divine.

What will be the benefit of knowing and accepting all in the form of divine manifestation? The expression which follows is the attempt of the preacher of the Gita to impel the human being towards his basic nature-
