💬 Commentary English

The title of the tenth chapter is Yoga of Divine glories. Where and in what dispositions is the Lord to be found? The same is being described. No state or disposition has its own independent existence; all are His glories. Due to His power they are animated. Their importance and existence is due to His power. To discriminate between the good and the bad and then to take the right decision is the power of intellect. Intellect is not a visible organ but a decisive power. What is creation? What is its substratum? What is its essence? Who is the reality behind this unreal world, etc. True knowledge of all these is wisdom. On acquiring this knowledge, detachment with the unreal and inauspicious and attachment with the truth and auspicious is the state of discrimination to know things as they really are. Even on having the power of punishing to take the offence with calmness, not having the desire to take revenge is forgiveness. But awareness is imperative. The matter can be related to personal offence. If the situation takes a threatening turn in the social context, if someone's crime becomes a misleading inspiration and starts poisoning the society then this situation does not warrant forgiveness.

To relate the reality as it is, to make the right speech keeping in view the welfare of others is truth. The very nature if God is truth, accept it-that too comes within the preview of truth. The experience of this truth, expressed in the speech and dialogue of anyone, appears to express the same truth. Not allowing the sense free reign and disciplining or controlling it with divine emotions is called the restraint of the external senses and to restrain the mind from engaging in useless thoughts of sensual objects is called the restraint of the inner spirit. Favourability is happiness and the state of unfavourability is sorrow. Favourability is His grace and unfavourability too is His beneficience. The state of the creation of universe is that of coming into existence and the state of dissolution is that of non-existence. The eventuality of the happening of the inauspicious and the loss of auspicious, i. e. that what is desired that does not happen... and what is not desired that occurs...this kind of doubt is fear. And to leave all these to God and enjoy the happiness arising inside is the state of fearlessness.

Avoiding causing injury to anyone by thought, word or deed, such an attitude is that of non-injury. Whether the circumstances are desirable or undesirable keeping the mind tranquil, stable and equanimous is equal mindedness. Whatever is received, take it as the grace of the Lord and becoming satisfied with it, is called contentment. To face happily the hurdles which come in the path of the performance of one's duty or sacrificing self-interest for the welfare of others is austerity. The use of competence given by the Lord for the benefit of the beings imbued with His emotions is charity. To receive honour and respect of the world on performing good deeds is fame and on committing wrong deeds disrespect and dishonour which is received is infamy.

That attachment should not remain restricted to just these expressions, that the human being does not get limited to these; for this reason the Lord is clarifying that all these expressions spring from Him.

Beings desirous of upliftment one should take special inspiration from these verses. Whatever exists, it exists because of His power and exists in His power. Creation is due to Him and so is dissolution! Happiness is also acquired from Him and grief is also His grace. Similarly, respect-disrespect, fear-fearlessness, etc. all emotions should be associated with Him. If despite all these qualities, the inclination is towards the divine then elevation is assured. This very expression is elaborated further-
