yo'yam yogastvayā proktaḥ sāmyena madhusūdana etasyāham
na paśyāmi chan-calatvātsthitim sthiram
cañcalam hi manaḥ kṛṣņa pramāthi balavaddṛdham
tasyāham nigraham manye vāyoriva suduşkaram
Vachan sunn ye Arjun lagaa kaheпе,
Kaha samta ka yoga jo aapne.
Chachal hai mann mai nahin samajhta,
Ki jamm paye yeh yoga mein hee sadaa.
Shri Krishna! Mann hai yeh chanchal badaa,
Hai pramathi balwaan hath se bhara.
Kathin hai bahut karna vash mein isse,
Aaye na vayu pakad mein jaise.
Arjun said:
O Madhusudan! This yoga of equanimity which has been spoken of by You with evenness of the mind, due to the restlessness of the mind I do not see it enduring in continuity.
Because O Shri Krishna! This mind is very fickle, turbulent, is strong and unyielding. For this reason to bring it under control I consider it as difficult as controlling the wind.

Arjun is in the st te of perplexity as to his duty, but even then he is listening attentively and understanding the gospel of the highest state of the human being, being related by the Blessed Lord; this appears to be so from the mental state of Arjun. That is why Arjun could see this state of yoga in the mirror of his mind, make an assessment and is making this statement.
Arjun is using several words for the mind further. This mind is wavering and is always engaged somewhere or the other. Sometimes in one thought sometimes in another. Sometimes dwelling on the past and becoming restless and sometimes in the thoughts of the future-thinking of moves and counter-moves. Sometimes making resolutions on any issue and at others changing one's own resolve by counter-resolutions! Sometimes under subjugation of one propensity and at other times coming under the control of a different one! The mind is of an impetuous nature. It can agitate even the best of the seekers. The desire is for something and it gets something else done. Sometimes one is helpless when one is in its control. It is very strong, obstinate and unyielding. Like a small child, it gets stuck in its own stubbornness.
With this state of Arjun's mind several of us definitely would be feeling happy. They must be feeling that this issue has been raised by Arjun as not that of his own but for us all and relating to us too. Such issues relating to such a state of mind, confront every seeker on the path of spirituality. Sometimes such a state of mind can take the form of pessimism by concluding that this mind can never be controlled. The mind is always unsteady and will continue to be so. Has the wind ever been controlled by anyone? Arjun has searched an illustration-'vayoriva suduskaram! The moving wind can never be confined in anyone's fist. Similar is the state of the mind. The state of Arjun's mind was heard by the Lord; he also approved of it, but along with it he also spoke of the means of controlling the mind-
