Uddhar apna karo aap hi,

Ki hai aap hi mitra apna bhi yeh,
Nahin aur shatru bhi khud apna hai.

This verse holds a significant place amongst the important and inspiring verses of Srimad Bhagvad Gita. This verse is the lifeline of the seeker on the spiritual path! This verse is a mighty support to lift oneself up from despair to hope and from downfall to elevation! For lifting up the dejected mind it is an unerring and infallible Brahmic weapon! For the ailing it is a perfect cure like the divine arrow!
Human life is meant for spiritual evolution and not for downfall and for degrading oneself-first of all this conviction should be well entrenched in one's mind. By evolution we mean welfare and self-upliftment. The only means for this is the human body!
The special insistence of the speaker of the Gita appears to be there for this verse.
No one knows after how many births and taking of forms, this human birth has been attained. Even now if one misses the opportunity to uplift oneself, then it may possibly lead us to slipping back again into the reverse cycle of births and deaths and the being may fall into lower births again. Therefore, it is essential to remain vigilant. This verse is appearing to be performing the function of a vigilant guard. Take this in this spirit only.
Downfall is not difficult but uplifting oneself is. While ascending if one reaches near the roof, and the feet slip and there would be a fall. What time will it take to fall to the ground loyal tolon in on that too to the ground level-none at all? Time is taken in ascension; that too especially when one suffers a fall, and tries to ascend once again. Understand this truth and accept this inspiration from the Gita, in this perspective. It is easy for the water to flow to a lower level; effort is required to lift it up and to take it to the height. The attraction of sensual objects and deliberation on them is a very easy path to fall (Gita2/62-63). Lift yourself up from this. This is not life, this is the road to downfall. It has to be grasped and thought about in this manner and one has to alert oneself from this misleading thought, as life is not meant for this. Life is not meant for subjection to the flow of inclinations, but to master inclinations and live. The joy of life lies in lifting oneself from the slushor mire of tendencies. For this is the Gita's call of encouragement.
'Uddharedatmanatmanam na'tmanamavasadayet'-O Seeker! Lift yourself up by your own Self; do not allow yourself to fall! One has to make up one's mind for elevation; one has to awaken the eagerness inside. Self-confidence has to be lifted up high! Circumstances may not be conducive; environment may not be favorable and there may be unfavourabilty of the physical body or either in one's luck or destiny it is not ordained. One does not have such blessings of the Lord that one should be able to elevate himself in this birth-all these expressions are pessimistic and are hurdles in the path of elevation! Lift yourself up by yourself only, i. e, awaken your inner confidence. Elevation is possible in this birth and one's birth is with this objective only. Several births have already taken place in the worldly mire and now no more. Always resolve in this manner! Have faith-in the strength of your awakened resolution and enlightened self confidence; the weak mind and external adversities will not be able to hold ground.
On raising the wall of an orchard to a height, the nightingale residing there feels sad and disappointed. When a saint arrived and asked for the reason of sadness and on getting a reply, the saint smiled and said, "O bird! The reason for your disappointment is not these walls but your mental weakness. Your vision is not on your wings but on the outward walls. Look at your wings, as for you neither the branches of the trees are high nor the walls! By means of your wings you can go anywhere; do not feel disheartened; make up your mind.Just the same state. For deliberating and awakening and strengthening of your ourage, lift yourself up! Do not allow yourself to slip down because you yourself are our friend, and you yourself are your foe too!
This is the Gita's most mysterious and thought-provoking expression. This is a erious and challenging inspiration for life. The solution for which is to be found in he following verse-
