If one practises meditation what will be gained? What will be attained? Intellect oriented towards commercial dealings can think in this manner. The Gita's preacher is describing the divine indescribable achievement of the discipline of meditation. "Shantim nirvanaparamam" the ultimate peace after attaining which there is nothing more to be attained.
The human being does such a lot of running around for getting peace! But he gets only restlessness. For getting peace it is not required to engage in external activities, but the need is to sit quietly. Being subject to the desires of the mind, and seeking peace outside will not help us to gain peace but "niyatamanasah" peace lies in subduing the mind. Be the master of your mind and do not be mastered by it. If one remains in the control of the mind, it will time and again pull one into the world and makes us extroverts. If the mind is subdued then its normal movement would be towards God. 'Sada' word is significant, the maintenance of constant practice is essential. If practice is done once or twice and then abandoned then purpose will be defeated. Regular and constant practice will only enable us to attain this state.
Peace will in any case be attained through the practice of meditation; but supreme peace and such a peace which is constantly there, is permanent, is always there, attaining which the mind is completely contented. For this is essential, regular mature practice and constant abidance of the mind in God. The Supreme is the Eternal power. Eternal peace, natural peace and supreme peace is the very nature of the Lord; that is why the clear indication is given that the yogi who meditates, will automatically attain the supreme eternal peace having its foundation in Me. It is a great assurance but not a hollow one. It has been proven by experience. Awaken your eagerness, become dedicated and take a vow for the regular practice of meditation.
