When egoism holds sway totally in life, then the giving Lord is never in sight. It does not appear that if I am something or I have something then from whom and where has it come from? I did not bring anything with me nor will I take anything along; I have acquired everything here and here for consumption here. If one has acquired something then from whom and for what purpose! But this kind of thinking is of a very high nature. Here there is no thought about it. In every matter egoism persists.

All this is the play of ignorance! In the light of knowledge everything is seen clearly and in true sense. The perversion lies in the darkness of ignorance. Deluded by that, the embodied being cannot consider power, wealth, etc. a gift of the Lord's grace and further a means for attaining the Lord. I have so much wealth and such a family of high status, I can do anything by means of my wealth. I have such a following that whatever number of persons I desire they would be ready to follow me. All the time engaging in boasting about oneself, remaining in one's own arrogance, engaging in self appreciation and hearing one being praised; to call oneself the greatest in front of others, believing it and becoming glad on hearing this from others-yes of course! All is being accomplished because of you. Who is there at present like you? On hearing this, arrogance becomes further confirmed and firm. Not just this-either not performing sacrifice and giving charity etc. Even if one develops willingness to perform it and even performs it, that will be accompanied by egoism. Just for the sake of earning a name or for the sake of fulfilling one's desire! It is just for displaying in the society-what a great sacrifice I have performed. There is no eagerness to acquire the pure fruits of sacrifice and charity, just for the display of arrogance and also for the meaningless imagination of rejoicing.
