Who is what-this can be identified by the good or bad signs he manifests. This presentation of Shri Gitaji in the form of divine qualities is a wonderful and distinctive guidance. Till now 20 attributes have been described in the foregoing two verses. Here in this 3rd verse 6 more attributes are described! Keep on reading and thinking and examining yourself in the mirror of these qualities.
'Tej' vigour-is the glory of human existence. Thoughts of the divine, company of the religious, service, remembrance cause a heavenly effect to manifest in life, due to which even those engaged in evil acts get a positive pure impact, they also by coming in the presence of such persons or influenced by their words or nearness to them, abandon evil and move towards virtues-this is vigour.
'Shama'-forgiveness. Someone has wronged us, even while having the strength to react we forget his offence; we do not nurture an attitude of punishing him or getting him punished, nor entertain a feeling of revenge in the mind-this from the spiritual point of view is forgiveness. The higher state of forgiveness is when we invoke the Lord for his welfare. If one has committed some offence or mistake then to ask for forgiveness also falls in the purview of forgiveness. To keep the mind calm and stable and to progress on the path of self-elevation-this is an imperative and a soon fructifying attribute.
'Dhriti'-fortitude-There should be no impatience or restlessness due to external circumstances or internal predispositions. In every situation patience is maintained. Whatever comes to the mind is uttered, whatever is seen its smell or fragrance makes the mouth water and one becomes restless for consuming it-not all these emotions! The fortitude should remain intact. The vision should be fixed on the target. There should be no subjugation to circumstances or dispositions; only then will the indication of fortitude be evident in life.
'Saucham'-purity, holiness, cleanliness is necessary from every viewpoint. That inner state should be taintless is an essential requisite of the path of spirituality. External purity is also a must. The body, food, wealth, conduct kitchen, sitting place-to pay attention to purity and cleanliness on all counts is proper and imperative.
'Adroho'-no hostile feelings towards anybody nor that of enmity. Even if anyone entertains a feeling of enmity towards us, we should still not harbour any ill-feeling towards him. All should be well with him-pray for him in this manner-this is absence of hatred. Do not change your own nature on observing deceitful and harsh behaviour of others. Let the tranquil and peaceful nature be maintained.
'Natimanita'-the attitude should be for giving regard and not for seeking honour. To consider oneself in one's own opinion to be superior and worthy of reverence; others considering me to be superior to others should respect me, and considering me worthy of worship should worship me. This attitude is not good. Till this point the Krishna of the Gita has described 26 attributes. These very attributes have been given the title of the divine estate. These are the qualities which make a human being godly in the human body.
