Therefore O Arjun! At all times constantly remember Me and fight. In this manner with your mind and intellect dedicated to Me, you will undoubtedly come to Me.

💬 Commentary English

The use of the word 'tasmad' has the effect of connecting the purport of this verse with the previous one. The practice which is firm and mature is the one which is effective in the end moments; it is uncertain when, where and at what time one may end; that is why you must remember Me constantly all the time! In any case in the eternal religion, worship, remembrance of God is not restricted to any particular day or time. On a particular day and at a particular time worship, reading of scripture and prayer is often resorted to; in the remaining period one does what comes to one's mind. It is belief rather reverent faith of the sages of the eternal religion that every breath is His endowment; that is why in every breath should be His remembrance; each action is being accomplished due to His power; that is why every act should be dedicated to worshipping Him. To forget the Lord is one of the greatest mistakes. That is why His remembrance should be done all the time!

'Sarvesu kalesu mamanusmar' My remembrance all the time! It is not impossible; it is totally possible. Determine in the mind to do so; awaken your interest from within; it is a very simple state to achieve. Remembrance is the subject of the mind. For some time try to sit peacefully and engage in the practice of making your mind dwell in the Lord. Recite mantras with feel and with faith! At that time take special care of the mind. The mind should just remain occupied with the remembrance of this name and in recitation of mantras! This state can be easily attained by trained practice! There should be no disappointment in any case. At the same time while conducting oneself in the world this resolve should be firm in one's mind that whatever is being perceived it is the sportive play of the Lord; what has been gained and is being gained, that is all due to His grace. Do not allow 'I' and 'mine' to come in between; the state of 'mamanusmar' My remembrance will be experienced by itself!

There should be just one resolution in the mind-freedom from the bondage of action, carefree life and for that purpose the attainment of the divine. It is not my objective to remain entangled in worldly conduct, the Supreme who has bestowed life on me and everything in this life, His attainment is my aim. The mind and intellect will be dedicated on their own. To develop the state 'Mayyarpitamanobuddhir'-that is dedicating the mind and intellect to the Lord one need not do anything special intellect should have the determination to attain the divine and the mind should replete with divine emotions! Worldly conduct will not be given up; such a state is not an impediment for discharging certain determined and assigned responsibilities; it is a contributory factor. A little awareness is required; the priority is not to be given to the world but to the Supreme!

This is what is meant by 'yudh ch'. The word 'ch' is important. Remembrance you must do and also engage in war. There is a special need to use 'hee' and 'bhi' in the right order. Where one must use 'hee' (has) there one uses 'bhi' (also) and vice versa. On waking up in the morning one has to get ready and take breakfast too; one has to go to the shop, office, etc too. One will also perform worship and read the scriptures. This verse is cautioning us. The Performace of worship and reading of scriptures is must but work will also be performed simultaneously!

The word yudh/war was meant for Arjun at that time; but the Gita is a universal scripture. In present day context, the meaning of the war is the struggle of life. In the inner state, the struggle of the tendencies, in the outer world the struggle in worldly circumstances. Here the means to succeed are just one-remain at the practical level of life but all the time with the memory of the Lord in mind.

'Mamevavaisyasyasamsayam'-by doing so you will certainly come to Me. In this context, the giving of such an indication by the Blessed Lord for the second time truly needs deep deliberation, at the same time it is a sign of the simple and natural affection of the Lord for the embodied being! The Blessed Lord desires to draw the embodied being towards Himself; He wants to awaken this keenness in the embodied being that his salvation lies in the attainment of the Lord; then why should there be wandering here and there?

This very expression is found in the following verse with greater gravity but with a definite assurance-
