The yogi knowing this mystery by means of knowledge of Truth, as to what are the fruits of merit as is derived from the study of the Vedas, practice of austerities and charity, etc. goes beyond them undoubtedly and reaches the primordial supreme state.

It is good to study the Vedas and it is necessary too. Vedas are the original basis of the Indian Vedic eternal traditions. Vedas are our honour, pride and glory. Similarly sacrifice, austerity and charity are essential from the point of view of self-elevation in human life. The Lord Himself in the eighteenth chapter has indicated that the actions of sacrifice, austerity and charity should not be abandoned (Gita 18/5)! Here this verse is full of mystery. By just reading it in a superficial manner one should not conclude that the Gita has shown indifference towards Veda and these activities. Here there is description of those who abide in yoga and the divine experience of attainment of supreme goal by this state! The attainment of merit by these spiritual actions is certain! The world is protected from the evil by all these; but they are related to the activities of the senses! Therefore, it is necessary to transcend them gradually.
To climb the roof there is the utility and necessity of the ladder. But to cling onto the ladder is not reaching the roof; one has to cross over the ladder. The experience of Shahenshah Ramtirth is as follows:
If one had done it earlier then only will it be possible to cross over. The one who has not done anything what will he cross? The one who has never climbed the ladder then what will he cross?
Understand the depth of the essential principle inherent in this verse. Keep on performing spiritual activities! Do not abandon them. Do not make the mistake of making a wrong interpretation of this verse. Do not limit your vision to the merit of these activities. The vision should be high-the experience of the truth principle, supreme status. Take it in this spirit that these activities are also helpful towards this objective! Do not abandon them. Gradually, get drowned in that joy and the propensity should become immersed and harmonized in the divine emotions. This is an excellent state. This is the aim, and also the highest and ultimate attainment; this is the purpose of this eighth chapter.
This chapter began with the mysterious questions put by Arjun and the solution provided by the Blessed Lord in an extremely skilful, profound and philosophical manner.
Brahmn is indestructible, that is the supreme peace, supreme destination, supreme status, supreme abode; on reaching this the embodied being will forever be delivered from coming and going from this world.
Everything in the world is transient. No matter how long are the days and the nights of Brahmaji and the gods they are still within the limits of time; that is why the embodied being limited to this does not go beyond the cycle of time. Only the Lord transcends time; the only means to get deliverance from the cycle of time is the constant remembrance of the Lord, withdrawal from the indulgences and inclination towards yoga.
To Conclude:
Remain in the light of knowledge. Do not go astray in the darkness of ignorance. The aim is the northern movement of the sun and not the southern movement! The bright fortnight of right thoughts, right conduct, righteous deeds should be there in life, and alertness towards dark aspect of the dark fortnight in the form the thoughts of sensual objects, worries, evil tendencies is needed! Gradually transcend the auspicious brightness of the bright fortnight, and reach there where this radiance originates from, which is pervasive of the day, month, fortnight and solstice and to transcend them too through contemplation and immerse in the joy of divine emotions; this is the gist of the eighth chapter. With this, the chapter is coming to rest.
Thus with the recitation of these divine names 'Om Tat Sat', Divine knowledge (Brahmvidya) and Scripture of Yoga in the Upanishad of the glorious Shrimad Bhagvad Gita, the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Arjun the 8th chapter entitled as the Yoga of Imperishable Supreme, stands completed.
Hari Om Tat Sat! Hari Om Tat Sat!! Hari Om Tat Sat!!!
