Chapter 8 — Akshar Brahmn Yoga

adhibhūtaṁ kşaro bhāvaḥ puruṣaścādhidaivatam

adhiyajño'hamevātra dehe dehabhṛtām vara

🕉 English Translation

Hai nashi padarth adhibhuta sab,

Adhidaiva hai purush hiranyagarbha.

Arjun adhiyagya ke roop mein,

Rehta hun bhitar iss deh ke.

📜 Translation English

All objects which are created and destroyed are Adhibhuta, the Hiranyamaya (the womb from which the beings spring forth) is Adhidaiva, and O best of the embodied beings, Arjun! In this body I Vaasudeva resides as the indwelling spirit and is called Adhiyagya.

💬 Commentary English

Keep the inspirations farm the Gita in mind as you move forward. The divine words issuing from the holy mouth of Lord Shri Krishna should be read attentively! The Gita is profound philosophical knowledge. Arjun's questions and the solutions given by the Blessed Lord have made it easily comprehensible. Even then while studying it, concentration and enquiring attitude are essential! Take this verse, for example:


Even though it has been explained in an easy manner, it will still be necessary to concentrate upon. 'Adhibhutam ch kim proktam'-is the question raised by Arjun. The Blessed Lord answers-'Adhibhutam ksaro bhavah'-all objects which come into existence and are subject to destruction are adhibhuta. The space, fire, water, wind, earth-these Five elements have been called five bhutas. All beings and objects owe their existence to them. The nature which is viewed by the physical eyes, all other living objects are perishable, they come and go, are destructible, ever changing and going towards destruction. Nothing is going to remain ever in the same form, of the same essence and uniform.

'Adhidaivam kimucyate'? What is adhidaiva called? The answer to this question of Arjun needs deep reflection. 'Purusacadhidaivatam'The Being is adhidaiva. Which being? The first being of this creation! Deities are several; that is why the special nameKeep the inspirations farm the Gita in mind as you move forward. 'Adhidaivam kimucyate'? What is adhidaiva called? The answer to this question of Arjun needs deep reflection. 'Purusacadhidaivatam'The Being is adhidaiva. Which being? The first being of this creation! Deities are several; that is why the special name to the being is given as hiranyamaya purusha (cosmic being) which does not fall into the category of deities! The one who is above even the deities-'ahamadirhi devanam' (Gita 10/2), God of the gods, Supreme Being, the Lord, and from His resolve the being first manifested in the creation in the form of Prajapati Brahma, who was responsible for further creation of the universe. Otherwise, in His own context-'adhiyagya katham ko 'tra dehe' 'sminmadhusudana'-who is adhiyagya and how does he reside in this body? In answer to this question of Arjun the Krishna of the Gita specifies in the form of adhiyagya: I Myself reside in the body! The Supreme is Omnipresent; it is true but at the same time, He is also indwelling spirit of all. In the form of indwelling spirit, he resides in the body of all and is the consciousness of all; this has been mentioned on several occasions by Him in the Gita.


In the sequence of questions the last question of Arjun-how do you come into the knowledge of persons in union with you in their last moments? This very question is replied in a straightforward, clear and impressive manner:
