The influence of likes and dislikes can be seen all around. When there is suitability then entanglement in the form of attachment and when there is unsuitability then entanglement in the form of aversion! In the world both favourability and unfavourability are always at every level and in every form. They are present together. From this arises attachment and aversion and gives rise further to the mesh of innumerable propensities. If there is attachment, arrogance accompanies it; greed follows and more and more desires and if somewhere there is aversion then jealousy, rivalry, anger, surge of emotions, fiery tendencies etc. arise. This is the ignorance which keeps the embodied being entangled birth after birth. The embodied being could have led a comfortable life of everlasting bliss by abiding in the divine spirit, but with the abundance of propensities, cycle of pleasure and pain have made him a cause for pity. He cannot disentangle himself. That this should not lead to dejection; the preacher of the Gita is giving an optimistic, encouraging and positive indication
