The Krishna of the Gita acknowledges that desires are fulfilled by worshipping the gods according to the scriptural norms. But with the condition that worship should be with reverance. In the Gita's inspirations reverence has a special place. Without reverence no devotion yields results, nor is the acquisition of knowledge possible without it. Even to the extent that reverance plays special role in desire-motivated worship of the gods. If it is in accordance with the norms it is good; but in absence of reverence even the norms are without substance. The desired reward can be granted by the gods and it is possible for them to do so; but the touchstone is the reverence abiding in the person desiring the reward! At the same time there is another mysterious state which requires serious deliberation. The Lord has in any case shown large-heartedness towards the freedom of adopting one's way of worship; but at the same time He has drawn the embodied being towards Himself with skilfulness. He could have stated it straightforwardly that the desired motivated action and the worship of gods for that purpose is not proper; no welfare can be derived from it; there is a greater possibility of the result being of the opposite kind. This would lead to the removed of faith from one end without it getting attached to the other end, meaning both ends would have been lost. It is true that the gods have a limited sphere of the fulfilment of desires; but even the fulfillment of desire that is being fulfilled by them is not within their power completely. It is limited to just to what and to the extent it has been invested in them by the Lord. In straight terms this means that the basis of it all is the Supreme, if by going around one has to come to Him then it is better that one should give it a serious thought beforehand; otherwise in this context is given a further warning:
