The men who perform virtuous deeds without any motivation for fruits and whose sins have been destroyed; they free from delusion arising from the pair of opposites which arise from attachment and aversion, are steadfast in their vows and worship Me in every manner.

💬 Commentary English

In the previous verse on reading 'sarvabhutani sammoham' it appears that all are wallowing in ignorance; then where is the alternative? But if the inspiration from the Gita itself gives rise to hopelessness then where will the hope lie? Shri Gitaji does contain warnings but there is nowhere any room for pessimism. Wherever you get this feeling there itself the Blessed Lord has presented a fresh expression of encouragement. Here the word 'tu' is used for this end only. The word 'tu' means but! This word has been used to give a positive turn to the previous verse.

This is the right direction and state for leading life. This is the real way of living life and joy also lies in it. To limit life in the dualities of attachment and aversion is to degrade it or it leads to the erosion of life values! The bird which has the capability to fly high, it seems is helplessly fluttering its wings in one place. Rise above the dualities of likes and dislikes and then see! Without any motive try to perform virtuous deeds. Invariably, this error hold sway in the life of people; they say, 'What can we do? What is in our destiny that is bound to happen? Our fate must be such that we are unable to do something good? Abandon such pessimistic thoughts! Keep in mind the inspiration from the Gita expressed in this verse! Become of firm determination! The Supreme who has given us life and also everything, do not forget Him! Forgetting Him leads to the commitment of sinful actions and entanglement in the dualities like attachment and aversion. 'Bhajante mam drdhavratah' worship by being steadfast in vow! Even if the destiny is not very favourable it does not matter! Firm resolution carries a lot of strength! Firm resolution will convert a destiny of excessive sins into that of virtuous deeds! Try to do this and see! Do not allow the destiny to become a cause for weakness or cowardice! Recognise the glory of human life! Allow the innate capabilities of life to grow by making right use of them.

The right use of capabilities can take us to a higher state; see further
