💬 Commentary English

Inspiration and warning and cause and its solution go hand in hand in the Gita. Indiscrimination is stated to be the cause of doubts. This message would have been incomplete. The argumentative personalities would have questioned the usefulness and divinity of the Gita; but Lord Shri Krishna does not want to give such an opportunity to anyone. For this reason, because of doubts and its evil results, in the same tone He has inspired for dispelling the doubts. Actions should be performed while being established in Yoga. The attachment to worldly indulgences is indiscrimination, ignorance and the spreading web of actions birth after birth is entanglement. Yoga is skilfulness in action (Gita 2/50). It is a sound means for deliverance from the bondage of actions. Renunciation of action through yoga is not giving up of action, but the renunciation of attachment from the fruits of action. By performing action in this manner the state of renunciation will be the same as the state of renunciation of action! If it is not so, then after giving up action, sitting in seclusion will not amount to renunciation. This will cause the discriminative mind to be vigilant. For an awakened discrimination, there is no question of doubts to persist. This is not just a sermon, but a very powerful guidance to the seeker. This address is made not by any lay person but the Lord Himself. Through yoga, renunciation of the indulgence is innate in action. Keep your discrimination ever awakened. In the light of discrimination keep examining your inner-self; there should remain no place for doubt; do not cast your eyes here and there outside; develop the nature of abiding in oneself. 'Atmavantam' then rest assured-actions will not become bondage. While performing action the state will be as if they are not being done. The more the discriminations is (knowledge) in the state of awareness, the more one will be ensconced in the real nature of consciousness. This firmness will not allow any doubt to prevail.
