In this manner many more sacrifices have been enumerated in detail in the words of the Vedas, know them all to be born of actions. Knowing thus the sacrifices in essence and by dedicatedly performing them, you shall be free from the bondage of work.

💬 Commentary English

The Gita is the gist of the Vedas. This is hinted at throughout the Gita's sermon by the preacher of the Gita on several occasions. Here too the Blessed Lord recalls the base of the eternal religion, the Vedas. It is always good to remember one's root and it is necessary too, for this reason and otherwise too the tradition of sacrifice is not a recent one, but is eternal and Vedic and has been there since the inception. Along with this, there is a hint that they have been detailed in the Vedas, because the Vedas are massive scriptures, because both desireful and desireless propensities of the human being have been taken into consideration. The sacrifices performed with the desire for fruit are better than not performing sacrifices at all. But they cannot deliver one from the bondage of action; the bondage will persist. But in the Gita the beginning and conclusion of sacrificial tradition has been done with the outlook of providing deliverance from the bondage of work. For this reason, only some sacrifices performed in the spirit of desirelessness have been described here. 'Karmajanviddhi tansarvan' all these sacrifices are born of work.

Sacrifice is an action and action can also become a sacrifice. Keep this in mind that actions should not be mere bodily actions. The actions are performed through body mind and speech. It means that external actions of senses, the words of speech and the thoughts of the mind-all should be transformed into sacrifice. Undoubtedly, life will become meaningful and the entire life in itself will become a living definition of sacrifice.
