II Shree Bhagavaanuvaacha II
bahūni me vyatītāni janmāni tava cārjuna
tanyaham veda sarvāņi na tvam vettha parantapa
Tab Arjun se Bhagwan kehne lage,
Janam tere mere bahut ho chuke.
Un sab ko jaanta hun magar,
Buddhi teri inse bekhabar.
The Blessed Lord said-O Parantapa (Scourge of foes) Arjun! Many are My births and so are yours. All of them I know but you do not know.
Please fill out the form below and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
In a single statement several indications has been made by the Lord. No straight statement also has been given by Him that He is the Lord; as, when and in whatever way I desire I can manifest Myself. He will reveal the mystery of His incarnation (avatar) but in right order, keeping in view every situation. I and you have taken several births. What an attractive way to relate. He has also linked the questioner with Himself. The embodied being is rotating in the cycle of birth and death-'punarapi jananam punrapi maranam, punrapi janani jathare shainam.' (Bhajgovindam stotra). The one who takes birth will die and the one who dies will be born again (Gita 2/27).
Observe the art of explaining used by Lord Shri Krishna. The question was pertaining to Him only but answer is full of intimacy. It is also required to explain the distinction between the embodied soul and the Supreme. That is why the splendid secret of incarnation (avataarhood) has been explained with wisdom and far-sightedness by the Krishna of the Gita. While finding a solution to the enigma, the keenness to know should enhance. Because the more the eagerness to know, the sooner will facts be assimilated in the heart.
You and I have taken birth several times. For once one will be wonderstruck that the Lord has taken so many births! From the point of essential truth principle the Lord has already stated that I, you and all these kings have always been and will continue to be (Gita2/12). In any case in the form of matsaya (fish), kacchap (tortoise), varaha (boar), vaman (dwarf), narsingh (human lion) parshuram (holder of battle axe), Ram, etc. in many forms He has manifested on the earth several times.
The embodied being has very little knowledge and the Lord is all-knowing. The knowledge of the embodied being is limited and also veiled by ignorance. That is why he soon lapses into forgetfulness. The Supreme is omniscient. The Past, present and future happenings whatever and whenever are taking place they are all in His knowledge; nothing is concealed from Him. One of the gopis of Vraj complains to the mother of Lord Krishna. Yashoda says, "Your son has again today stolen butter and eaten it."
Yashoda says, "You complain to me. Why do you not hide the butter?"
The gopi utters, "O Yashoda! I have tried to hide it many a time. This is what is not understandable. It appears that nothing seems to be hidden from your son, Kanha."
The reality is also this. 'tanyaham veda sarvani'-I know each one, O Parth! All is in front of Me. Nobody should understand in this way that both the ordinary mortals. and God have undergone several births and those births have happened. Then what is the difference between the embodied being and Brahm in manifestation on the earth? The Blessed Lord gives a definite indication-
