The mental state of every individual is different. Therefore, it is not necessary that the same means hold good for all. If the means seem to be suitable to the mental state then the practice of the method adopted will become easier. In any case among several inspirations from the Gita one of the fundamental specialities is that all seekers have not been compelled to follow the same path. The goal is the same for all undoubtedly; but for attaining the goal the choice of the path is left to the freedom of the devotee which he can choose according to his mental state. In this part we get a hint of this! If some seeker is unable to fix his mind and intellect then..... further other means are described. Try to practise. The mind has to be detached from the world and attached to God. This is necessary. The mind remaining involved in the world and attainment of divinity at the same time is not possible simultaneously. The mind gets detached from the world and attached to God in a positive way! Always Remain dedicated to God. Attachment to the world, will by itself reduce. This is practice and Yoga.
Involve yourself in the practice of recitation/repetition. Take away the mind from worldy worries and thoughts and involve it in the recitation of mantras. Take care of your mind. Whenever and wherever it goes, withdraw it then and there and engage it in the recitation of mantras. The more maturity one gains in practice of mantra recitation the more natural happiness will prevail and gloom will be done away with. Love for the Divine will by itself intensify, the mind will be attracted towards God. Try this. It is a very easy and joyful way. There is no difficulty anywhere. There is only the need to keep practising. Don't miss the opportunity nor get jittery nor get fed up. Go on with patience. The result is certainly beneficial, Do not worry about it.
The thought of the Lord's name, form, sport and His abode can also be taken up for practice. The study of scriptures suited to one's way or method and inspirational pictures of God's devotees should be reflected upon time and again. This is also a good inspirational practice. Practice of constantly looking with reverence at the picture of your preferred/favourite God or during meditation bringing the form of God on the canvas of your heart is also joyful and fast-yielding fruitful means.
Another special indication. In the Gita the Blessed Lord is especially aware of this and also wants to keep us aware. The yoga of practice-practice should be there but be cautious that the practice should not be keeping the world in mind. The goal should be union with the Lord or attainment of godhood. Only then will practice be meaningful. The vision with the practice should be this. Take special care of this.
If even this is not possible see the magnanimity of the Gita further.
