Na adi na anth iska aur na tike.

Dridh shastra varaigya ka lekar ab,

Majboot iski jade kaat sab.

📜 Translation English

The form of this tree of world as is seen here is not perceived when contemplated upon; because it has neither a beginning nor an end nor does it have a firm foundation. That is why this world in the form of pipal tree with firm roots should be cut asunder with the sword of strong detachment.

💬 Commentary English

The world is beautiful, attractive to observe, but in reality it is not just so as it is seen. What appears to be real is virtual! It appears to be happiness giving but is grief-giving! Do not see the world from the point of view of desires, clinging or from that of egoism! Evaluate the world by contemplating on it. Utilise the eye of wisdom. The eye of wisdom is not any other eye but the awakened discernment! On observing with discrimination only one will be able to perceive the reality of the world! The reality is what the Krishna of the Gita is describing in clear terms-

How ancient is the world, where did it begin and where and how will be its end, where lies its middle? It is not certain. The world also does not have stability of its own; every moment brings about change in it. It does not have firmness and stability for a moment even. The moment which is being observed, it ceases to be. Till the time it is observed that moment will have moved ahead. See the strong current of the water of the Gangaji. The water which is in front of you is not really so. By the time one starts observing it that water would have flowed ahead. The flow from behind comes in front.

If the thought-process is deepened and taken further, in the state of knowledge of the truth principle it will be evident that the world has no entity. The only reality is the divine. The world will be observed to be of His nature (Sarva Khalvidam Brahmn-All is Brahmn) or (Vasudevam Sarvam-All is Vasudeva). The unreal has no existence and the real never goes out of existence (Gita 2/16). In that state, there is no question of beginning, middle and end and nor is there an independent state of the existence of the world! Even then the roots have become deep-this is ignorance, lack of knowledge, maya or illusion. The vision is directed to the attraction of the outside world! Not the least bit of the understanding of the reality. Due to external attraction desires and longings are intensified. Their impressions get deeply entrenched inside. At times while keeping religious company, reciting the name of the Lord or engaging in any other spiritual activity the inner intellect keeps itself busy with worldly enjoyment; for that the Blessed Lord calls for resoluteness-'asangasastrena drdhena chittva'! By the weapon of detachment and dispassion resolutely cut it asunder.

Slackness will not be of help. Side by side the mind getting drawn to the external activities will keep on accumulating the impressions of external sensual objects.

This state will persist. Awaken yourself. Make your mind understand repetitively that for how long it will remain entangled in this cycle. Enough is enough! Awaken your inner eye of discrimination; understand the reality. Do not allow your desires and craving to colour the world. See the world as it is! In one jerk let the mind know that as the world is transient and perishable, what transformation takes place at what moment-this is not known; then what kind of wisdom there is in remaining attached to it, involved in it, and to keep on clinging to it? The source of bliss is the Supreme. O Mind of mine! As soon as possible take yourself away from the worldly thoughts; attach it with the all Blissful Lord. To cut off relationships mentally with the world and to develop relationship with the Lord is real dispassion. Accept this! But once again, be warned. Nothing can be achieved by laxity. A firm onslaught on thought's is essential. Do this much; a godly state is lying in wait for you-
