Chapter 1 — Arjun Vishād Yog

Verse 11
🕉 Original Sanskrit Shloka

ayaneșu ch sarveṣu yathābhāgamavasthitāḥ

bhīşmamevābhirakşantu bhavantaḥ sarva eva hi

🕉 English Translation

Tab Duryodhan bola Maharathiyon se,

Jagah apni apni pe hoke khade.

Pitamah Bhishma ki raksha karo,

Chahun oar se nazar unpe dharo. 

📜 Translation English

Therefore, let all of you take positions on all fronts firmly at the place allotted to you; guard Grandsire Bhishma from all sides without taking any chance.

💬 Commentary English

Until now, the matter was restricted to Acharya Drona. But here by making one statement Duryodhana has given several indications for Grandsire Bhishma. In any case, it was understood that if Shikhandi confronted the Grandsire in the war, he would not have fought. He would not use weapons in front of him. That is why it was required to protect the Grandsire on all fronts. But the Grandsire is competent and he is the commander too. His protection…! This looks a bit odd. Duryodhana is a cunning person. It appears that he is indicating cleverly that the Grandsire should be on his side. Whether it is this way or not, it should be taken care of. In whatever way possible Duryodhana is trying to provoke the Grandsire and Acharya Drona to remain on his side in a committed way. Until now Dronacharya also has not spoken much nor has he expressed any feelings. To prevent Duryodhana from getting discouraged from the beginning the Grandsire reacts–
