💬 Commentary English

Here, Duryodhana counts the few of the names of main warriors in front of the Acharya. Sattyaki who was taught archery by Arjun remained invincible till the end of the war; he could not be killed. Later he died in the mutual warfare of the Yadavas. Virat, the King of Matsya kingdom was a righteous king. Drupad, the King of Panchala, was a childhood friend of Dronacharya but refused to recognize him after becoming a king! Dhristaketu was the King of Chedi Kingdom; Shishupal's son but now on the side of the Pandavas! Chekitana, the brave king of the Vrishnis race, was the commander of one of the seven Akshauhinis of the Pandava army; the king of Kashi Kashiraj, the brother of Kunti and maternal uncle of Pandavas the two brothers Purujit and Kuntibhoj; Shaibya, the expert policy maker; the father-in-law of Yudhishthir; the princes of the Kingdom of Panchala, the two brothers Yudhamanyu and Uttamauja! Extraordinarily outstanding warrior Abhimanyu, son of Subhadra and Arjun, and five sons of Draupadi (Prativindhya, Suttasoma, Shrutkarma, Shataneek and Shrutsena) who were killed by Ashwatthama when they were asleep. For these persons Duryodhana combined together two indications–'Bhimarjun sama' meaning thereby that all of these are mighty like Bhim and Arjun. The next 'Saraivamaharatha' meaning that all of them are great charioteers/warriors. It is specified in the Mahabharata Udyog Parva that the one who can confront ten thousand soldiers alone is a great charioteer/warrior. The clear indication is that the best amongst the Acharyas! is being cautioned that these warriors of the Pandava army cannot be taken lightly or be underestimated. Therefore, it was necessary to be alert beforehand. Now Duryodhana gives the description of his own army in the next three verses
