💬 Commentary English

The Lord is God of the gods. He is the primordial cause of the gods; He is their source. This is the reality and it is beneficial for the embodied to accept it and accepting it to perform the sacrifice with the belief that the main enjoyer is the Lord Himself. That sacrifice though may be performed with any god in view or it is in the form of service to some troubled destitute or in the form of giving fodder to the cow or it may even be in the form of giving food to the dog-in these varied forms the enjoyer is the Lord Himself; He is the one who is accepting it. This is not a hollow belief; this is the reality.

The Lord is the master of the entire creation and all moving and unmoving beings. It may be the gods, human beings or the lower births, the master of all and the Lord of all is that one Supreme. The creator and the one who maintains discipline amongst them in accordance with the rules. Our benefit, welfare and elevation lies in knowing and accepting this; otherwise, there will be the state of downfall:

The matter relates to feelings. It is not bad to perform sacrifices for the sake of the gods; it is, in fact, good. To perform the sacrifice by the way of service to anyone is also beneficial; but if it is done in the spirit of dedication towards the Lord, if this attitude is developed that in this form my own Lord is the acceptor, then the joy of the same will be extraordinarily different. In any case, our attainment of the supreme status lies in developing such an attitude. Otherwise, if attitude is with the motive for reward or if the Lord is not acknowledged as the master of all, then even while performing a virtuous deed, egoism and ostentation will become part of it and will cause downfall in the form of coming and going from this world.

This state is further described in the following verse:
