📜 Translation English

This greatest secret of the wisdom along with knowledge, as you are free from fault-finding I will relate to you again properly, on knowing which you shall be released from evil, meaning that you will be liberated from this world of birth and death.

💬 Commentary English

Where there is intimacy, there is a natural desire to say something good and also to do good towards that person. Arjun is dedicated towards the Lord, is devoted single-pointedly towards Him and has made Him his own. He has won His faith and feelings towards himself of the Lord and vice versa. Though due to the effect of delusion, his mental state is a bit unsteady; but he entertains no doubt with regard to the essential nature of the Lord nor about His divinity; there is nothing lacking in his intimacy, nor is there any quibbling i. e. any attitude of fault-finding. This is the very quality which draws the Blessed Lord, especially towards elevating and doing good to the embodied being. That is why the preacher of the Gita's sermon commences this chapter for the purpose of the welfare of Arjun with this divine assurance:

Mere discussion of knowledge does not appeal very much to the Krishna of the Gita. For this reason along with knowledge is discussed wisdom (experience). Along with giving information practical experience is also discussed. On acquiring knowledge the commitment is required to experience it in practical life. In this chapter it is discussed what kind of knowledge-the absolute secret, extremely secretive and full of mystery! Why is it secretive? Because the Lord Himself has unveiled His essential nature in several verses and has openly described it. When this knowledge becomes the practical inspiration of life then what benefit can be derived? Every question carries an answer with it. 'Mokshyase ashubhaat' deliverance from evil! What is evil? On moving away from the Lord whatever predispositions, defects, sinful acts have appeared in life and due to which restlessness, sorrow, agitation, bondage of action and then the cycle of birth and death began, deliverance from all that!

In accordance with the title of the chapter, the description of importance and the greatness of the chapter comes forth in the form of the divine speech of the Blessed Lord
